Every New Yorker knows that a few of Bill Cunningham's favorite haunts are the corner of 57th and 5th, the door of Barneys on Madison, and outside nearly every fashion show that ever happens in New York.

Only in New York! Bill Cunningham (in blue) working the corner of 57th and 5th. You just never know who will be there. |
Sometimes I wondered how he seemed to be everywhere.....then I saw him one August morning with his getaway vehicle. There he was with his Nikon FM2 (one of my first cameras), and I with only my iphone. Turns out, that was sufficient to capture the lensman in action.
|
Is this "Breakfast at Tiffany's" with Bill Cunningham? Or "The Bicycle Thief" with Bill Cunningham? |
At 10 am on a Tuesday in August, even at eighty something years old, he was faster than the average cab plodding down Fifth Ave.
|
Faster than a speeding cab....and able to dodge traffic. |
